Out of the different devices, Infinix has on the market, the company’s Note series is its phablet line that has been around for quite a while. Devices in this series are known for their big sizes and even bigger batteries.
The Infinix Note 4 replaces the Note 3 that was launched back in 2016. The Infinix Note 3 and Note 4 have a lot of similar specifications but the design is perhaps the biggest change on the Note 4. Infinix is using the tag #AmCharged when promoting the Note 4 and this shows that the battery is one of the key selling points of the Note 4. Before we get into the full review, this is what you should expect in the box when you get the Infinix Note 4:
- The Phone (Infinix Note 4)
- Screen protector
- Transparent back cover
- USB Cable
- Power Adapter
- User Manual
DESIGN AND BUILD
So, a plastic back is what we have with the Note 4, and it is removable to get access to two SIM slots and a microSD card compartment. However, the 4300mAh battery is reinforced with screws, which means that you can not pull it out. It should be noted that Infinix introduced light reflexion and a shimmering experience with color.
Apart from the Infinix and Note branding and the 13MP cam that is augmented with a dual-tone LED flash, the back of the phone is not busy at all. While the Note 3 had metal on its entire back. the Note 4 is frugal with where it uses it, which is on its sides.
Still, on sides, all control buttons (volume rocker and power key) are on the right. At the top is alone 3.5mm headphone jack, while the bottom has a pair of machine-drilled holes; but only one is a loudspeaker. A micro-USB port sits between the grills. Flip the note 4 to the front and you’ll be greeted by a glorious 5.7 “display with a resolution of 1080 to 1920.
It is a beautiful screen, with popping colors and appreciable contrast levels. The navigation tasks are handled by a physical home button, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner (more in one minute), flanked by two neon-lit point-like capacitive buttons. It is a drastic departure from the Note 3 that has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and futuristic, on-screen navigation buttons.
Lastly, an 8MP selfie snapper and an LED flash are on either side of the earpiece. Worth noting is the existence of an LED notification light, a handy feature at this price point.
NOTE4 has the newest Sharp 5.7” display feature with high color gamut – reaching 85% NTSC, which is 20% higher than most competing smartphones. With a 1300 (TBD) contrast rate and luminance, exceeding 500cd/m2 which together makes the screen unbelievably colorful, clear and dynamic.
This display is quite vivid and bright. It is a 2.5D curved display that looks really good and different. We do not see 2.5D Glass on most smartphones from other manufacturers within this price range. This display is very responsive and is not a fingerprint magnet.
I had to mention this as most low-end smartphones tend to have displays that collect fingerprints even with a few minutes of using them. Using the phone indoors or outdoors presents no serious problems, it has adaptive brightness and thus the brightness is automatically adjusted depending on the light in your surroundings.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
The phone comes with Android 7.0 Nougat with XOS 2.3 Custom UI on top which comes with a ton of Infinix specific app (X apps) and features meant to make it light and slightly improve the user experience.
Even though XOS is built on top of Android, it is slightly tweaked to improve performance and ensure you get more battery life. Overall software performance is very good. Powering the Infinix Note 4 is the 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6753 processor which is an octa-core processor.
This is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space that can be expanded to 128GB using a MicroSD card. This combination can handle everything you throw at it. People using this phone will not have any issues with the occasional lags.
FINGER PRINT SENSOR
The Infinix Note 4 comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded underneath the home button. This is different from other Infinix phones with fingerprints sensors. Setting it up is quite easy and is the same process as you would on one mounted on the back. You can add up to 5 fingerprints on your device.
The sensor itself is very responsive. You can get into the phone directly from the sleeping mode quite fast, a second or two. No delays and no errors unless you do not place your finger properly on the sensor. Besides unlocking the phone, you can also use the fingerprint sensor to access the app lock and XHide app.
13MP BACK, 8MP FRONT
The Infinix Note 4 isn’t really a camera-centric smartphone, but it has some good cameras. It has a 13MP back camera that takes some good shots.
The camera has manual controls for those who care about that and can shoot full HD videos. The front facing camera, on the other hand, is quite good too. It can even take some really good shots when indoors.
The Infinix Note 4 comes with a 4300mAh non-removable battery. Given the huge battery capacity, charging it is not a problem since it supports fast charging. With fast charging, it gives you about 60% battery (from 5%) in a little of about 30 minutes.
